Juhannus 2012
The sun shone. The birds sang. The mosquitoes bit. A successful midsummer cottage weekend all around.
Some specific things I’ll remember from this trip:
1. Our first sailing expedition on the brand new (to us) sailing boat, whereby we managed to get stuck in the middle of the lake, sailing in circles while my youngest proceeded to meltdown. It was honestly hilarious. My only regret is that my Mom wasn’t there to witness it, because she would have found the whole thing HYSTERICAL. I’m grinning even now at the memory.
2. Waking up at 3:00am to an amazingly gorgeous sunrise, and willing myself out of bed to photograph it.
3. Seeing the newest addition to the summer cottage nearly finished.
4. Quality time with friends and family. That’s really what the summer cottage is about. Nothing much happens. It’s just a group of people (a large group- 8 adults and 5 kids this time) who come together for a few days to talk, swim, sauna, eat, and let’s not forget SAIL.
Oh, and 5. The first time in the history of EVER that I managed to get more pics of Henry than of Benjy. Benjy’s in a “I don’t want to be photographed- at least not without a bribe” phase. Here’s hoping it passes.

Sarah, this looks amazing! So wonderful you have a place you can go to like this. Great photos — and what great memories you are making!
Mom
You know me too well – I absolutely would have been laughing hysterically being stuck in the middle of the lake! Looks like everybody had fun. Who won the annual mölkky tournament?

This I find completely awe-inspiring, baffling, and is what I love about you – that you can laugh in the face of disaster. I’d be fuming; you honestly find it funny.
