Here’s my how-to guide on potty training, gleaned from one week’s experience in potty training my own little bundle of joy.
Step one: buy the training potty. This is seemingly more difficult than one would think- I kept forgetting to buy it when at the store. Like, FOR MONTHS kept forgetting.
Step two: put your kid on the training potty.
Step three: read a story to your kid on the training potty to keep him entertained.
Step four: watch in amazement as your child miraculously starts peeing and pooping every time you put him on the potty, starting on day one without any coercion, threats, or bribery.
I have NO IDEA why this has been so easy. But it seems that Benjy, at 17 months, is well on his way to being potty trained. My plan is to let him run around without a diaper in summer, so he really understands that he should use the potty every time he has to pee. And maybe we should come up with some sort of sign for “I have to pee” since he still isn’t saying A WORD.

Go Benjy!
I mean, “go on the potty” Benjy!
Great job!
Lucky mama!
Holy cow. No really – HOLY COW! Do you know how rare that is? I wouldn’t go telling this story at play group. The other mommies will shoot you death glares.
Congrats!
You are a very, very lucky mommy, especially with #2 coming along soon! It seemed as if it took my son and daughter forever!
lol, okay, I guess I should have said BABY #2, not just #2! haha!
Wow! He’s an early potty trainee! Way to go! My 21-month-old showed some interest a few months back and had some successful ‘going’, but since then she’s kind of forgotten about it. I too am waiting for summer so that I can allow her a little more ‘freedom.’
